Propane is a colourless, flammable heavier than air gas.
Propane is commonly used as a fuel and is one of a group of liquefied petroleum gases.
There is legislation and design standards based around gas safety for education buildings, these include the use of gas pressure proving for teaching spaces and gas detection for areas of plant/boiler rooms.
Monitoring for a gas leak with valve isolation is used as way of reducing identifiable risks. It is seen as a measure to help confirm the integrity of the installation and if a leak is detected to isolate the gas valve to prevent continual gas escape and to instigate an investigation and repair.
