CO₂ is now considered a primary indicator of air quality, with the latest legislation setting maximum limits for levels within education facilities.

With the SACO₂ carbon dioxide levels can be continually monitored in rooms such as teaching areas or offices. The panel and sensors have been developed to enable compliance with these latest standards.

These include the Department of Education building bulletin 101 (BB101), the supporting document to the building regulations part F. The BB101 states that the maximum level of carbon dioxide in the air within a classroom should be no more than 1,500 parts per million (PPM).

The SACO₂ can be installed and used as a standalone unit with one or two carbon dioxide sensors model AD-MED-CO₂ fitted. As a standalone system, the panel will indicate a pre-alarm at 900ppm by means of a visual indication on the panel fascia. The panel will indicate full alarm at 1,500ppm, again with visual indication on the panel. A sounder is fitted within the panel and is factory preset to silent but can be activated by means of jumper plug adjustment where an audible indication is required. The system will drop out of the alarm condition as the carbon dioxide level.

The SACO₂ also has two NO/NC contacts which change state at the pre-alarm and full-alarm levels, these can be used for controlling any mechanical ventilation in the room.
